Northern Vermont State Parks
Trek across northern Vermont on your next trip to the north east – explore these state parks for unmatched outdoor fun in the Green Mountain State. With 30 state parks found in the northern reaches, plan your next trip carefully and experience a wide range of outdoor fun.
When you visit South Burlington or Waterbury, you won't be far from the wealth of attractive outdoor scenery at area state parks. Head for Elmore State Park, 219 acres of lush parkland ideal for a summer visit – thanks to Lake Elmore, you'll make good use of your boat, or you can fish the shores.
Take the majestic views in and around Mount Mansfield Sate Forest, where you'll find Underhill State Park – hike your way to the summit of Mount Mansfield.
Cavalier explorers can make their way further north to Lake Carmi State Park, the furthest north state park in Vermont. You'll be only minutes away from the Canadian border, but be sure to have a blast on the actual Lake Carmi, all 1,375 acres of surface area. Cruise in your boat, fish the shores, or hike the many winding and scenic trails at Lake Carmi State Park.
Just West of Lake Carmi is a collection of state parks found on Lake Champlain. North Hero State Park is popular, as is Alburg Dunes State Park, and Knight Island State Park. Each of the parks yield their own unique brand of outdoor excitement and fun – most are pet friendly, and feature BBQ grills, pavilions for large gatherings, and running water for facilities.
Just southwest of Waterbury you'll find three more state parks, two of which are top destinations for Lake Champlain visitors. Button Bay State Park is adjacent to the Basin Harbor Airport, and the Basin Harbor Golf Club. Just north from there you'll find Kingsland Bay State Park, ideal for launching your boat, or flying a kite. Mount Philo State Park is also nearby – it reaches heights of nearly 1000 feet, offering views of the Adirondack Mountains in New York.
