State Parks in Central Vermont
With a blend of open pastures, wooded forest areas, and plenty of shoreline from which to fish, the state parks in central Vermont offer you and the family a wealth of outdoor fun.
Check out state parks around Ludlow and Rutland on your next summer visit to central Vermont. Branbury State Park is found almost directly north of Rutland within the Green Mountain National Forest. Open from Memorial Day through Columbus Day, Branbury State Park is a full 69 acres of explorable fun.
For excellent aquatic adventures, head for Lake St. Catherine State Park, found just east of the border in South Poultney. Opened in 1953, Lake St. Catherine State Park is 117 acres of hiking trails, picnic areas, and wooded areas. The actual Lake St. Catherine has two sandy beaches where you can spend a pleasant afternoon with the whole family.
Camp Plymouth State Park is found within the city of Ludlow and is less than 10 miles south of Coolidge State Park. Within the 295 acres at Camp Plymouth State Park, be sure to check out Echo Lake, scenic hiking trails, or enjoy a family picnic. Coolidge State Park is found in the Calvin Coolidge State Forest and is known to be virtually intact from its original construction.
Northeast from Coolidge State Park is Thetford Hill State Park. Lace up your hiking boots and hit the trail – find some time to explore Woods Hill Trail, one of the top attractions at Thetford Hill State Park. Another 10 miles northeast of Thetford Hill State Park is Silver Lake State Park. Launch your boat or simply enjoy fishing the shores of Silver Lake, the centerpiece of the park.
