From: NY Thruway I-87 Head north to Exit 23. Take Interstate 787 North to Exit 9E. Follow signs for Troy/Bennington (Route NY 7 East). Take NY Route 7 East through Troy. At the Vermont Border NY 7E becomes VT 9 East. Stay on VT 9 East into Bennington. At the first traffic light, turn left on to Benmont Avenue. Follow Benmont Avenue until it ends. At traffic light, turn left. The Best Western Bennington is on left at second traffic light.

From: Boston Take Interstate 90 (Mass Pike) West to Exit 2. Take Route 20 and 7 North through Pittsfield and Williamstown, MA. Follow 7 North. Once in Bennington, stay in left lane. Bennington Battle Monument

Built in 1889, the Bennington Battle Monument is the tallest man-made structure in the state. Located near Bennington, the monument memorializes the successful defeat of two British army units during the Battle of Bennington, in the Revolutionary War. In 1777, 1,400 men were led by U.S. General John Stark, Colonel Warner and Colonel Herrick, in the victorious battle.

Visit the 306 foot tall monument and enjoy an elevator ride up to the 200 foot observation deck. Bring your camera to capture magnificent views of Vermont, Massachusetts and New York. Take your time admiring the views. While there, stroll the grounds to see the kettle taken from British General Burgoyne's camp and learn more about the battle and how the monument was built. Bennington College

Set in the Green Mountains, Bennington Handmade Pottery is located in Bennington in southern Vermont. Founded in 1948, Bennington Potters encourages visitors to stop by the Potters Yard – set at a historic, former gristmill and schoolhouse.

Bennington Handmade Pottery also features shopping for handmade stoneware, home décor, Vermont specialty foods, and more. The pottery shop and self-guided tours are held Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. – and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Bennington Museum

Formerly the Bennington Historical Association, the Bennington Museum was founded in 1852 in the city of Bennington. The museum is known for unique-to-Vermont artwork, toys, maps and books, and military artifacts.

The Flag Gallery features the famed Bennington Flag, along with Hadwen Woods and the George Aiken Wildflower Trail in the surrounding area. The Bennington Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from July to October, and closed Wednesdays from November to June.

Fort Dummer State Park

Found east of Bennington in the city of Brattleboro, Fort Dummer State Park is 217 acres of majestic and picturesque Vermont parkland. Because of the fertile landscape at Fort Dummer State Park, you'll be in the midst of wildlife critters like squirrels, turkeys, and deer. When you visit Fort Dummer State Park, you'll find stunning views of the actual Fort Dummer, which the park overlooks. Fort Dummer was flooded in 1908 when the Connecticut River was dammed.

Hemmings Motor News Filling Station

A hard-to-miss Sunoco filling station, the Hemmings Motor News Filling Station is located along Main Street in Bennington – found in southern Vermont. Established to resemble an old-fashioned gas station, the station provides attendants who wash your windows, check your oil, and more.

Travelers can stop for lunch at the 50s diner booth, and visit the Our Car Lover's Gift Shop. The shop features fine automotive art, Hemmings-wear, collector-car memorabilia for sale, and New England's largest selection of automotive neon signs.

Jamaica State Park

Consisting of 772 acres, Jamaica State Park has been open to the public and delighting visitors since 1969. The park sits on the shores of West River, giving way to a plethora or aquatic activities and opportunities, like fishing, swimming, and whitewater paddling.

Just northeast of Bennington, Jamaica State Park also features a variety of on-land recreation as well: picnicking, a play area, foot trails, volleyball, and horseshoe pits make the fun-filled state park great for the whole family.

Lake Shaftsbury State Park

Located on 84 acres of scenic Vermont land, Lake Shaftsbury State Park offers plenty of lakeside activity to its visitors from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The park became an official state park in 1974, and has since become a popular destination for vacationers near Bennington.

The park is ideal for traveling families looking for outdoor recreation in southwestern Vermont. The park has kayaks, canoes, rowboats, and pedal boats for rent. Moreover, the park features fishing, swimming, and picnic areas, – all are perfect for family-fun spent outdoors.

Molly Stark State Park

Named after the wife of General John Stark, Molly Stark State Park is located in southern Vermont, just east of Bennington. Set along State Route 9 ­– otherwise known as the Molly Stark Trail Scenic Byway – the park was first constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

Open daily from 10 a.m. to sunset, Molly Stark State Park’s season runs from Memorial Day Weekend to Columbus Day. Visitors may hike the two-mile Mt. Olga Trail, the quick Nature Center Spur, and neighboring trails in the Hogback Conservation Association area. Biking, cross-country skiing, and pets are also allowed.

Park McCullough House

Set on 200 acres, the Park-McCullough Historic House was built in 1864, and is located in North Bennington in southern Vermont. Listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, the house is owned and operated by the Park-McCullough House Association.

Open to the public, the Park McCullough House features tours on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Events are held at the Carriage Barn, while tours are given of the grounds and big house – one of New England’s best-preserved Victorian mansions.

Southern Vermont College

A private liberal arts school, Southern Vermont College was established in 1926 in the city of Bennington, Vermont. Covering 371 acres, Southern Vermont has approximately 500 students enrolled, and offers 15 degree programs.

The Southern Vermont College campus features Everett Mansion – listed on the National Register of Historic Places and housing the Burgdorff Gallery. Southern Vermont College’s NCAA Division III athletics program is home to the Southern Vermont Mountaineers.

The Apple Barn & Country Bake

With a history dating back to 1910, the Apple Barn & Country Bake is located in southern Vermont near Bennington. Set in the Green Mountains, the Apple Barn started as the 300-acre Southern Vermont Orchards, and today offers a bakery, coffee shop, gift shop, and more.

The best way to experience Apple Barn & Country Bake is through their popular Motor Coach Tours – allowing guests to choose from a donut and drink on the Orchard Tour, or pie alamode and orchard tour on the Taste of Vermont Tour. The Old First Church

Also the First Congregational Church, the Old First Church is located in Bennington, Vermont with a history dating back to 1762. The church was first completed in 1805, though renovated and refurbished several times over.

The Old First Church neighbors the final resting place of poet Robert Frost – and is just a few miles from the Robert Frost Stone House Museum. The church and the cemetery were formerly known as the Vermont's Colonial Shrine and Vermont's Sacred Acre.

Townshend State Park

Park goers are encouraged to traverse the Bald Mountain Trail, clocking in at just over three miles round trip. The trail provides up close views of the forest as well as spectacular views to the north, south, and east at its summit.

Owned by the State of Vermont, KDDH is a hub for cargo airline AirNow. Covering 100 acres in Bennington County, KDDH features one runway and one terminal.

Woodford State Park

Located near Bennington in southern Vermont, Woodford State Park delights its visitors with 398 acres of high-elevation forest. Visit the park for a variety of outdoor activities along the several lakes and ponds in the surrounding area.
